Municipal: Side Loading Refuse Truck

This side-loading garbage truck uses an electronically-controlled hydraulic arm to empty residential trash containers into the truck. GS Hydraulics led the design and development of the advanced electronic control and hydraulic systems for this demanding application. The GS closed-loop system automates control of the lifting, packing and dumping functions. Separation of the recyclable and waste materials is also incorporated into the design. Safety interlocks are integrated into the truck’s electro-hydraulic systems to prevent unsafe operations and to prohibit some functions while the truck is in motion. The controls in the cab are configured to address ergonomic concerns and optimize ease of operation. The automated design greatly improves productivity compared to other methods of trash collection for municipalities.
