This machine is a specialized system for very precise deep bore drilling (depth to diameter ratios of 100 to 1). In this application, straight fluted drill bits allow cutting fluid to be directed through the drill's body, directly to the cutting surface. Automated machining centers are a significant investment, and machine downtime is very expensive. Heat build-up and contamination in the cutting fluid are two common challenges associated with this industry.

GS Hydraulics addressed these issues by incorporating contamination-tolerant pumps coupled with a variable speed drive. The variable speed drive delivers the optimal amount of fluid on demand. Closed-loop monitoring of the pump’s output flow, with its efficiency calculated, result in ongoing predictive and preventive maintenance and maximize the machine utilization. A filtration system reduced cutting fluid contaminants. Heat exchangers keep the fluid within desired operating temperature. This engineered solution results in optimum speeds and feeds for maximum machine productivity.
